Before iOS 11, you needed an App, but with iOS 11, you can scan documents via the Notes App on your phone.

Your response was spot on. I appreciate the specific direction that you provided. The only thing that I might add, is that I had to update the Notes app. To do so, I deleted my existing app and downloaded the new app for Notes from the Apple Store.
