Compressor job fails, keeps trying

Hi folks!

So I keep trying to encode two x 2-hrs long videos in Compressor to the Vimeo (up to 4k) format. Every time it gets almost to the end of the job, it fails and starts over again, without throwing an error message or any message at all. The progress bar just bounces back to zero.

It leaves some junk files in the destination folder, of the kind that usually get deleted after finishing:

Files like :

LO 4 Night All.mov.sb-07eeef8a-Kv2jCe

etc. These files are 13.7 Gigs, which means they are actually almost the full finished video.

The files were exported from FCPX, and I already used each of these big ProRes source clips to export multiple short clips (one chapter each). Those worked fine, and I had two other 2-hr files that exported all their chapters one by one and then exported the full-length successfully (after failing a few times as well). All these files were created using the same methods: share "master file" -> prores from FCPX timelines.

I'm on Compressor 4.4.1, FCPX 10.4.3 and High Sierra 10.13.4

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

Didn't work! 😕

What DID work (hallelujah!) was taking the full-length ProRes into Compressor and setting the Out point about 1.5 seconds from the end. Then it exported properly, wow what an ordeal!

BUT that last chapter exported fine by itself, right to the end, in previous attempts. So I don't get it - the file itself must be OK?

Well, solved is solved. Thanks for chiming in, Tom!

So strange. Exported many other timelines of the same length, with all their subclips, successfully, then tried these again.

Re-rendered the troublesome FCPX timelines, re-exported ProRes 422, then tried them in compressor - failed.

Tried exporting from FCPX to a new directory, compressing to a different directory - failed.

So weird. Every individual chapter of these timelines can compress. But trying the whole timeline at once - fails every time. Takes an hour to process (2012 rMBP, Apple please release a new MBP that is good! I will buy it this week!!)

I need to have these in the same format as the others. With chapters.

Tried a terminal "cat" command to concatenate the files. Didn't work, but I may not be doing it right.

Trying MPEG Streamclip now to combine the finished files (all the chapters worked individually! But not the whole timeline!). Um - it failed, half the sections were black. For some reason.

Also tried MP4 joiner, didn't work either, but for its own dumb reasons. Avidemux won't even read the files.

I think it might be a permissions problem. I tried exporting one of the same files using Quicktime Player and it failed, saying there was no permission to write to that folder (where I've already done 30 transcodes of the same source material this week, using different segments of the file).

I recently renamed this HD, and maybe a Compressor background process is having a hard time dealing with that, despite many reboots, updates, compressor repairs and so on. Or maybe OSX didn't update the drive's "ignore ownership" flag on that volume in var/db/volinfo.database when I renamed it, causing confusion. I did this and maybe this will solve it:

How to fix drive-permissions problem in OS X - CNET

Alas, no, didn't work. Exported three sub clips from this master source, they worked, then tried exporting the whole thing, it failed.
