I previously had about 1000 photos on my iPad that wasn’t signed in an iCloud. After signing into my iCloud the photos previously on my iPad suddenly disappeared and only 4-6 photos remain. Please help, 1000 photos is alot to lose.

If that doesn’t help, you would need to restore from a backup which included those photos. You can find instructions for restoring from a backup here:
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
If you do not have a recent backup, and the photos are not stored elsewhere, there would not be another method to retrieve them.

I appreciate your time to reply to my issue that I’m currently having, but I have one more question regarding this issue. What exactly do you do if you had photos on an apple device but weren’t signed into an iCloud but then you wanted to sign into an iCloud? This was the issue I was having with my iPad.

Where did those photos originate?
One reason photos might disappear from your iPad when you enabled iCloud Photo Library would be if the photos were placed on the iPad through a USB cable from iTunes on a computer. Might that be the case? If so, you need to arrange to get fresh copies from the computer.
