Cannot update mac OS X 10.6.8

I think my mac OS X needs some updates before practically usable, in particular the network protocol it is using, I think is outdated. For example, I cannot go to most websites that use https, including apple.com. However, I got stuck because I cannot even connect to the App Store (maybe due to the outdated code). I am using mac OS X 10.6.8 on Core 2 dual machine.


Is there any alternate method to do update?


Please help. Thank you.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Unfortunately, I still cannot solve the problem.


For the first link (If you can't connect to the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or App Store - Apple Support), I followed the steps:


Step 1. Check your connection - as mentioned, my connection should be ok as I can still be able access websites except some using https


Step 2. Check System Status - it says my country (Australia) is fine.


Step 3. Update your account - I think it should NOT due to my account. If so, App Store should at least says something like "invalid password".


Step 4. Update your software - but how can I do that? It is a catch-22.
