Vertical lines on MacBook Pro

1year 5 month old MacBook pro.

OS high sierra, version 10.13.5

No damage and no other issue, upon turning on had vertical and horizontal lines on screen an in the period of three days went from perfectly functioninfo machine to completeLu unusable, cursor doesn’t respond and the entire sc filled up with flickering lines. Is this a known issue?

The opt+com+p+r test was done with Apple call support, no result.

At the genius appointment, without any diagnostics tests I was quoted approximately USD500 fee upon site. So I don’t know what the issue is, what caused it, if it’s likely to repeat.. the ‘Genius’ kept repeating (15times)that I have to pay because I am out of warranty. I emailed about the experience to Apple store no response for a week. That was a hour spent with no solution presented. I insisted that he run a diagnostics test and he ran a software test which came all clear. Even I know that this is a hardware issue. Genius refused to run any other diagnostics, ‘it’s not my job’ and said to fix it I have to pay first. The machine is 17 months from purchase and has total malfunction, his response to that was, ‘it was your choice to purchase it’ so am now looking at community suggestions towards fixing it.
