Syncing contacts Mac to iPhone

Used to be able to force syncs with command R but now its meant to be automatic bot with High Sierra 10.13.5 it seems to have stopped. I was told that if an edit did not go through just put in a new name like "aaa aaaa" and it would sync and bring others along with it but today Mac will not sync to iPhone - it will go iPhone to Mac but not other way. Very puzzling - have tried with charger connected - WiFi is perfect, with WiFi, rebooted iPhone. Still nothing. Any ideas out there please.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), Photos 3, iPhone SE 11.2.6

Thanks Rudegar,

I already my settings to that which is annoying as it slows things when adding a new address but it usually appears within a minute. Right now additions to contacts from iPhone goes straight to my Mac and iPad.

Additions to Mac contacts do NOT sync to iPhone or iPad.

Anyone else? It has worked up until I loaded latest High Sierra I think. OS 10.13.5
