I bought an “iPhone 8” from a second hand shop and was reassured it was fully working and in good condition. However, after awhile of use, I’ve noticed that the phone doesn’t operate as an iPhone 8, but more like a 6s

I was a little sceptical about the price at the time so I checked the IMEI number and it does infact come up as an iPhone 8 however, it doesn’t have a the same quality camera as the iPhone 8 (i.e. it’s missing the portrait feature) and other just doesn’t seem like the 8. Can someone help me out? I dont know what I should do about it, or if it’s simply just an case of changing some settings et.

See this comparison about the camera of the two devices (I don't see any difference):

If you have any doubt about the quality of your iP8 camera, demonstrate it to the shop where you bought your iPhone.

I think there's no need to find the full model number, Kurt.

Yup. The short model number on the back will tell you the same thing. I can't remember what the longer model number is for. I think it changes if you, for instance, have an older iPhone 8, and another that was built four months later, but has had minor hardware revisions. They'll both be (example) and A1905, but will not have the same long model number.
