Can’t open timeline.mov file from old iMovie HD project
I’m uploading a bunch of homemade movies from about a decade ago, created using iMovie HD (06) on a 2005 iMac, to YouTube. For the most part I’ve managed to (convolutedly) come up with a method that works, but one of my videos has an issue.
I’m usually able to access the timeline.mov that iMovie HD creates when you make a project. Since for most of my projects the audio has been sepeeated from the video, I use the timeline.mov files, located in the “cache” folder of the iMovie project) of the movies to reconstruct the original videos back in iMovie HD (using Terminal to open the old application on my current 2012 iMac). I just import the media (video clips), from the “media” back into the project and then listen to the timeline.mov in order to rearrange them.
However one one of my timeline.mov files will not open in QuickTime. Normally this wouldn’t be strange if all of the media clips weren’t still accesible in the media folder. For a lot of my lost movies that were corrupted somehow in the transfer between computers this is the case, but for this movie I still have access to the video clips, but QuickTime, VLC, iTunes, etc all still can’t open the file.
I’ve tried repairing the file using a couple iffy file repair programs but none have worked. The .mov files located in the Garageband and iDVD folders of the iMovie project don’t work either.
Not sure what to do, any help would be appreciated.
