Can I update from iOS 6 to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S?

Hi,

I am using my old iPhone 4S as a secondary/backup phone. It was running iOS 9.3.5, but extremely slowly so I decided to downgrade to iOS 6.1.3. I got the .ipsw file from ipsw.me. I was able to do this because Apple recently started signing iOS 6.1.3 for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. After downgrading, I saw in Settings on the 4S that I had the option to update to iOS 8.4.1. However, I would actually like to update to iOS 7. I downloaded the ipsw file for iOS 7.1.2 from ipsw.me and tried without success to update via iTunes. Even though it said the firmware was no longer being signed by Apple, I thought this just meant I couldn't restore with this firmware from iTunes. I didn't know it meant I couldn't update to this version of iOS. I would still like to get iOS 7 on this phone. Is there a way?

Thanks.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3

Oh sorry to hear that, unfortunately you can’t currently update your 4s to iOS 7 since the signing windows for iOS 7 is already closed. You’re lucky to get to downgrade to iOS 6. However, currently you can just only reset your iPhone from settings or update to the latest software.

If you want to reset your iPhone advisable to just reset from your settings app so that u can stay on iOS 6.

You can also update back to iOS 9. But from my opinion it is better to stay on iOS 6 even the software seems obsolete. I’m suggesting you should upgrade your phone from 4s.

I hope my reply is helpful for you and everyone.
