MacOS Pages 7.1 update disaster

Updated to Pages 7.1 on my Macbook Pro (Touch Bar). All inline objects in all documents using the same basic template have disappeared, and several Character and Paragraph Styles are corrupted. The styles can be deleted, but I am unable to create new Character Styles (I can, however, create new Paragraph Styles). Some documents have over 1000 pages, and some only have a few pages, so in this case size does not matter. Any ideas?
