Unable to load kext - system integrity protection

Hi everyone,

I've got an issue with the SIP functionalities.

I use an external thunderbolt drive to do all of my time machine backups. Previously, this all worked fine. But since I upgraded to the Mojave beta's, it stopped working. So I downgraded to High Sierra again thinking this would solve my issues.

However, it did not. Now, whenever I install the accompanying software (for my drive), I get a message stating that I need to allow the loading of a kernel extension in the "Security & Privacy" preference pane. There, I see the button that I need to click to allow the loading of the kernel extension. Unfortunately, whenever I click this button, nothing happens.

If I disable the SIP functionality regarding the loading of kexts, everything works fine again. But for obvious security reasons, I don't want to do this.

Has anyone ever had a similar issue? And if so, how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance!

Han

You can use Full Keyboard Access to press the button, but as macjack posted, you should not need any additional software to use an external hard drive.

That software is generally crappy (as you seem to have discovered), and only servers to let you write to NTFS (Windows) formatted drives. Just format the drive for use in your Mac and you don't need the software.

If you turn on Full Keyboard Access in the Keyboard System Preferences, you can tab to that button and use the spacebar to activate it.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I understand that SIP is protecting my system. However, in this case I need to load this third party kext, otherwise my drive (a Drobo 5D) won't work.

So my problem lies with the Security & Privacy preference pane where there is an option to allow to load a signed third party extension. The button to allow it, is there as advertised, but it simply won't do anything.
