Cannot pair Bose Soundlink AE2 Headphones with MacBookPro

Early 2015 13" MBP running OSX 10.13.5.

The headphones pair with my iMac and iPhone without issue.

On my MBP they pair for approx. 2 seconds before disconnecting.

I have tried to follow the pairing instructions here https://www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/support/article/pairing-and-connecting-to-a-mac-com puter-soundlink-mobile.html

But the headphones don't appear in the System Preferences | Sound | Output list.

However they did appear there briefly once when I connected to them via the Bluetooth menu bar, but it was impossible to select them as they displayed for only a fraction of a second. I have been unable to reproduce this.

I have installed the latest firmware on the phones (2.5.1) but this made no difference.

I have tried clearing the headphones connected devices list; reset PRAM ... no effect at all.

I found the solution. I had used Bluetooth Explorer to allow AAC codec for better quality sound from a Sony Bluetooth Speaker. Resetting to defaults permitted the headphones to pair and remain connected.

Amazingly, the "high quality" and "high price" Bose headphones only seem to support the SBC codec.
