Vocal Recording Level

I am trying to record vocals in Logic using a Blue Yeti mic. I have the gain on the mic set about half way.

In Logic the audio channel is distorting when I record but I can barely hear the vocal in headphones.

If I turn the channel level down I can't hear anything in my headphones.

How do I turn up the level so I can hear what I am doing but keep the level from distorting?

If the audio channel in Logic is distorting (which is not a good sign), it means the input level is probably too high. You'll have to reduce the gain on the Blue Yeti, and not the volume of the audio track you're recording to in Logic. I'd set that track's volume at -1.0 for reference and make sure it does not clip (i.e. distort). Ideally, the input signal should reach just below the threshold set by volume slider at its highest peaks. Likewise, the Stereo Out should not clip, too. If you see red on that channel it's not a good sign.

Now, to monitor the incoming sound better you'll have to increase the output volume of the audio interface. If you're using Built-in Output with headphones connected to it, you can use macOS volume control to do that (either in the top-right corner of the screen or with volume controls on the Mac keyboard). If you're using an external audio interface with headphones connected to it, you can set the output volume there, as well.
