Trying to Re-enable my 1st Gen iPhone

Has anyone encountered the link to this screen?

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208831

If connect my iPhone to my iMac, the first thing I get is a Dialogue that says: "An update is required to connect to your iOS device".

If I click on More Info, I get the screen in the link.

If I click on Install, after a few seconds of being told that its "Downloading 1 item" I get told that I "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server"

Noting that the iMac is running 10.13.5, with iTunes at 12.8.0.150, the message on the screen is surprising, and suggests that the reason for the continual 1603 errors when I try using iTunes without a force restart is not the USB link to the phone, but because Apple have decided to "Brick" their back catalogue.

Cheers guys.

The original iphone is formally obsolete by Apple worldwide, as is the 3g and 3GS - Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support

The original iPhone even predates iOS. It ran at the most iPhone OS 3.1.3. which I don’t think Apple has distributed for several years now. I don’t believe you can get access to any release of iPhone OS.

The name iOS wasn’t introduced until the first iPad came out in 2010.
