My iPod will not update past iOS 9.3.5

i have an iPod 6th Generation and it will not update iOS past 9.3.5 and it will also not allow me to go onto the internet. Does anyone have any Idea why?

Perhaps you have a 5th generation Touch. The 5th gen cannot be updated beyond iOS 9.3.5.

Look at the rear of your iPod: if it has a pop-out button in the lower left corner, it is a 5th generation Touch. The 6th gen Touch does not have this button.

If so, it's a 5th gen model and cannot be updated beyond iOS 9.3.5.

Pictured below is a 6th gen Touch.

Make a full backup using your iTunes computer and then erase all content and settings and set up as new. Then restore from your backup. Are you sure it is a 6th generation iPod? What is the model number? Settings>general>about>model number = ? Do you have restrictions set?
