I can't remove chumsearch

User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

I can't remove chumsearch from default homepage, it's grayed out.

In both Safari and Chrome; the three dots to the right in Chrome won't highlight to remove, and the option to change in Safari is grayed out.

I even went to Preferences, Privacy, Manage Website Data and removed chumsearch, but it doesn't matter, it shows up again later.

The screenshot also shows mackeeper in the lower right hand corner of Google, which I can't find in applications.

Help please!

Download and run Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

Remove Chumsearch.com from Mac OS and Windows (Guide)

Malwarebytes will also will detect MacKeeper as PUP (Potentially Unwanted Software) and will remove the app and all of its components.

I reluctantly installed Malwarebytes, since I'd rather not use a third party app, I feel like I'm just installing Norton or Mcafee....and it said it cleaned my Mac, but I still couldn't change my homepage, doing what you Greg B32 suggested, remove the profile, allowed me to finally change my homepage. Hopefully everything is okay now. I did open Google and the mackeeper in the bottom right corner is no longer there.

Thanks

Worst case scenario and at own risk, but you can also in Finder click on Go at top menu, then select 'Go to...', enter '~/Library/Application Support', clear all contents only inside of the Application Support folder. Restart computer.

You could lose some information doing this, so make sure you have backups.
