How to sequence photos in an album without impacting other albums

How do I "freeze" the sequence of photos I have in an album? Some of the photos were scanned, others are digital photos from my camera. I have titled them all, and arranged them in a desired sequence. Without adding text or numbers to the titles, is there a way to "freeze" their sequence, so if I put them in DropBox, or on a stick, they will maintain the sequence I created in the Photos album?

Next, is there a way to do the above without impacting the sequence of a photo that is in multiple albums. For example, a photo of my son Bob's graduation may be included in, and sequenced in, three albums. It could be in albums "2017 Family" and "Bob's Graduation" and "Bob's Life". Based on the process you recommend (first paragraph) to "freeze" the sequence of the album "2017 Family", will that cause distortion in the sequence of photos in the other albums that may contain several of the same photos in the album "2017 Family"? I believe this was a negative outcome of using the Batch Change trick in iPhoto - is there a better way to do this in Photos, that "freezes" the photos sequence in an album, without impacting other albums?

Thank you

In a standard album you can arrange the photos by dragging them into the order you want.

This will not change the order in other albums.

If you want to preserve the order when you export the photos to a folder in the Finder, you have to use a file naming scheme with a number prefix, so the photos can be sorted by the file name.

You could use for example the file naming scheme "Album name with number" and the subfolder preset "None". This will result in a long list of numbered image files.

Photos in a Finder folder (such as a folder on the desktop) have no order as such. The Finder can display them in order by file name, by creation date, by size, or other attributes, but that's just a display order.

The usual process for forcing files to have a specific selectable order is to alter the file names during export to have the desired order when displayed by file name. That has no effect on the copies left behind in the Photos library, just the copies created in the Finder folder.

My question is, Is there a way to export my photos (to a desktop folder, in this case) that captures both Sequential and Use Titles? Obviously this will make sharing photos much better when sharing with a PC user.

and the answer is no as posted

The answer is you You can not - files have no order and each program viewing them determines the order the are viewed in - Photos can not determine the order in any other program - the viewing program determines that - for example when viewing files using the finder you can view the same set of files in many different sorts (name, kind, application, last opened, etc) which are determined by you not by photos or any other program -

You can export the photos from Photos so it is easy for you to set a view so you see them in the desired order but Photos can not do anything to set any order in any other program - the common way to view photos in the finder in the same order they were in Photos is to use the Photos export with sequential file names option of the Export command (if the full export option window does not show click on the v to the right of Kind to open the full window) so when you view teh file in the finder you can sort by name and see the desired order

Out of curiosity, will the process you describe impact the sequence of photos in other albums, if they contain some of the same photos from the "frozen" sequenced album?

there is no such thing as a "frozen" sequence album so this makes no sense

As I previously stated

User albums in Photos can be sorted by photo date ascending or descending or by title - if you change the photos attributes then they will affect all albums that the changes photo is in

as to

How can I maintain album photo sequence when I export an album (all its photos) to a desktop folder? What is the process for doing this? This is my primary question.

Ok - to bad you did not ask the question your wanted answered previpusly

your question is not really clear

for support on using third party applications like Dropbox contact the third party vendor support - the order photos are displayed in a third party application has nothing to do with Photos and nothing you do in a third party application is going to affect Photos unless you mess with the content of the Photos database - that is a no no and shold never be done ever - Photos has certain sorts available - other programs may or may not have the same sorts, again contact them for help with their programs

Larry HN - OK, let me try to simplify. Forget about the third party applications. How can I maintain album photo sequence when I export an album (all its photos) to a desktop folder? What is the process for doing this? This is my primary question.

Thank you again for your explanations. I now have a better understanding of export options, such as "Sequential" and "Use Title". I have tested these two options on Dropbox, and interestingly, when I drop the "Sequential" folder from my desktop into Dropbox, it perfectly captures the photos in the sequential order of my album, but the individual photo names are listed as 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc. When I drop the "Use Title" folder from my desktop into Dropbox, it captures the titles for each photo, such as "1-2018 Bob's Birthday.jpg", "April 1994 Graduation.jpg", etc ... but the sequencing is a mess.

My question is, Is there a way to export my photos (to a desktop folder, in this case) that captures both Sequential and Use Titles? Obviously this will make sharing photos much better when sharing with a PC user.

Thank you
