I have been looking at the old discussion board and see that other people have has this same issue but the explanation doesn’t seem correct! I just had the iphone 8 plus and both the speakers worked at the bottom of it! so why don’t both of them work on the iphone X? It just seems kind of janky.

You are mistaken. Each device has ONE speaker on the bottom. Here are the technical specifications from their respective pages.
The iPhone, like every other iPhone has only one speaker along the bottom edge.

No... they didn't. Why? Because there is only one speaker on the bottom edge of the phone.
The grills at the bottom of the phone are one speaker and one microphone. There are not two there. Nor were there two in the iPhone 8 Plus. Only one is a speaker, the other is a microphone.
Why does only one iPhone X speaker work?
