Pages 7 - show Ruler in custom template?

Two questions on Pages 7.1 regarding Templates:

1. I'm trying to add a custom Template where when it opens, the Rulers automatically show up. I used to be able to do that in Pages 4, but I can't get the Rulers to automatically show up in any custom Template that I create. I know it's just a ⌘-R away, but am wondering if anyone else has seen this.

Same goes for automatically showing Layout. I can't get a custom template to show it automatically.

2. Has anyone figured a way to delete the default templates that come with 7?

thank you.

  1. Pages 7.1 will not save rulers or other interface settings in a template. It does not share the same document architecture, source code, and has fewer functional features than those found in Pages '09 v4.3.
  2. Pages 7.1 is a signed application and removing components of the application will break it. Just don't go there.
