My contacts suddenly disappeared

Majority of my contacts suddenly disappeared from my iPhone X. I have tried almost all the obvious solutions posted online. Toggling on and off contacts, resetting network, signing out of iCloud, changing default, etc. I had all contacts on Gmail as well as iCloud. Really weird since I haven't don't or installed any app that should affect it. When I go to recent calls I see just the numbers with "maybe *contact name*" underneath rather

iPhone X, iOS 11.4.1

Zizunola,

Unfortunately, the image you provided did not post in your reply. This article is similar to the one suggested above and will help you navigate www.icloud.com so you can restore your contacts:

If you accidentally deleted your calendars, reminders, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud - Apple Support

Restore your contacts or bookmarks from an earlier version

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Scroll down and under Advanced, click Restore Contacts or Restore Bookmarks.
  4. Click Restore next to the date before you deleted the content.
  5. Click Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you'll get a notification on iCloud.com and an email to the address on file with your Apple ID.
Take Care.

Hi Zizunola,

It could be possible that you have multiple sources for your contacts. If so, you can check to see if they are all showing by opening Contacts then tapping Groups in the upper-left corner. You will see a list of all the sources for your contacts. Make sure all of them have a check in front of them. This will ensure that all of your contacts are showing.

If the issue persists, you may need to contact Apple Support for additional assistance: Contact Apple Support

Regards.

Thanks for the reply. I finally got to restore but it didn't restore my previous contacts. I chose a date before the issue came up. I still see same number of contacts. My contacts are more than what I see. It looks like they vanished strangely.

Tried importing a vcf file but looks like iCloud couldn't import that too. Please help
