After putting in the DVD for the first time, everything works fine. I eject it, then reinsert it and the player automatically picks up where it left off before. But the problem is that the menu is frozen. One of the buttons is highlighted in a color that is not in any settings and is not normally that color in any selected "state". When I click enter, a video starts from the menu, I click menu from the video and it goes back to the menu and acts normal. It's only on the initial menu after inserting it the second time that it freezes. Thanks for any input you may have.

Try making another simple project and testing that. Try different media etc. See if you can repeat it with other projects you've created. Sounds like it could be something like that. It's an odd one for sure! Maybe check your outline view to make sure you haven't got an extra menu in the project by mistake!
A simple project test should give you some answers. What is the player? Are you using your own menus or dvdsp template ones?
I had a couple of less then steller players around (still do) and they will have freezes when taking a disc out and putting them in again, even on some DVDs I rented. But of course bad burns and other things were sometimes the culprit, but often not.
Unplugging the machine and plugging it back in would cure it.
Thank you guys for your input. I've actually tested this on a few players and computers with the same freezing, so I know that it's not just a problem with this one DVD player. The one thing that's unique about this DVD that I have not done before is that I have two menus that are almost identical. The difference is that one has a host talking in the menu. One of the buttons goes to the other menu where there's just a freeze frame so it looks paused.
Some trouble shooting I've done:
At first, 3 of the 5 menu buttons would turn white when any of the buttons were selected. These same ones were the ones that were white when the DVD was frozen after being put in the second time. I duplicated some of the buttons that were working correctly and replaced the ones that were not. Those now work fine, but one of the ones that was working correctly before, now has the problem the others were having before.
When I'm in "outline view" looking "by VTS" I have one track in VT 1-5. In VT 1, I also have a folder of menus. It has my two menus in there. Is that all okay?
You can manually allocate the menus to different VTS blocks if you want. But having all the menus in that folder is the default. You only need to worry if the menu isn't one you want to be in the project...
