Buying a Used iPhone, How to Tell if it’s Fake

I’m buying a used iPhone 8 Plus tomorrow. Is there an easy way to tell if it’s fake?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

1. Have the seller meet you at an Apple Store and let them check it out.

or

2. Turn the phone off and then restart it. If it needs an Apple ID to unlock it, have the seller provide that Apple ID and then have the seller sign out of the phone and out of iCloud. ( Settings > [ name at the top of the page ] > scroll down and sign out ) If the seller cannot provide the Apple ID to get into the phone or cannot provide the Apple ID to sign out of iCloud, do not buy the phone.

None of that will determine if it's a 'fake' phone, but that will go a long way toward being sure you're not buying stolen property.
