Thoughts Using an SD Card as Storage

I have just a 128GB MacBook Pro (Early 2015) (was my mistake being cheap and not getting larger storage), so I seen these Transcend 128GB for just around $90 CAD, and was wondering has anyone else used these?

I like the idea as it stays flat to the port, would saving me from needing to do daily or weekly backups to my external. I do want to say I understand this won't expand my storage, but giving me access to an external at any time.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), null

Using a SD card like that for extra storage will be fine if you understand the limits and reliability of it . I use a SD card for my backups currently but it is not my only backup device , redundancy . I have a regular SSD external for full back ups and then store it in a cabinet . I do backup about once a month with it . An SD card will be slower than a SSD but faster than the old spinning hard drives . It can withstand a lot of handling like a SSD but they will fail more often . They are just not as robust as SSDs or spinning hard drives . Not to say they are bad but for you to be aware . Having one always connected will be fine and a good place to store files like videos , photos , documents , and such . I would suggest an additional external drive though to do your full back ups ( including those on the SD card ) .

True. Yeah I have a SSD, just right now I have to backup often to it (due to having just 128GB drive with only 100GB free after macOS).

Thanks for your thoughts, something to consider. I mostly photo edit, program, or write documents. So with my uses I think this may be a okay approach.
