How can I replace an external mouse

Hello all, I have a MacBook Pro laptop that is running High Sierra 10.13.5, and I use an external mouse instead of the mousepad....

My external mouse has been damaged, and I have a new mouse to replace it, but when I plug in the new mouse it works terribly slowly. Also, it never asks me, nor says anything about installing new device.

Is there a simple way to force change an external usb device, and have Mac recognize it?

Thanks in advance!!

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.5)

Go to the manufacturer's site and read the instructions for installing on your version of Mac.
