lots of people if you look in these forums

it is caused by one of two things nearly every time - incorrect camera settings or a corrupt library - right click (control Click) on a photo in import that is not where you think it should e in moments and select "show in moments) - the moments window will open - your photo should be shown and if it is look to see why you are not finding it (the most usual cause is incorrect date settings on the camera) - if moments open and your photo is not displayed hen you have a corrupted library and to fix quit Photos and make a back up of the Photos library adn then hold down the option and command keys while launching Photos and repair the library (if you are using iCloud Photo Library this will trigger a new total upload of the library to verify integrity and may require temporary increase in iCloud storage)

Hi Larry,

Thank you for your response. I was worried about the thought of having to repair a library of 27,000 photos but as it turns out I don't need to. The photos I imported came to me in a zip file and I assumed that they would have lost their metadata and would appear in Photos as a block. They haven't and they didn't. They are in Photos and scattered throughout according to the individual dates on which they were taken. This is actually very handy as I need to arrange them in a chronological sequence for the project which is going to use them.
