Messages only shows 1 line of text in preview

I had an iPhone 5S and when I viewed text messages in the Messages app, each message appeared as preview and displayed 2 lines of text (if there were enough characters). Now with my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11.4.1, I am only seeing 1 line in the preview of text messages. I looked at the settings of Messages but did not see anything obvious that would alter the preview of text messages. I've also played around with the font sizes, but no luck. Is there something that can change this setting?
