How can I export a numbers document to Excel for other people?

How can I export a numbers document to Excel for other people? I have been doing this for years and now others can't open it.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

sometimes when you try to export from Numbers to Excel, you don't get the results you expect, especially if you have pop up menus and other Numbers specific features...

what you CAN do instead of converting it to Excel, is ..

1. if they have a Mac, they can run it in Numbers..

2. if they have an iPad or iPhone, they can run it in Numbers for iOS.

3. if they have a PC (windoze) then they can set up a FREE iCloud account and run it in Numbers via iCloud using Chrome or Firefox.

Your exported data should then be found in one of the other Sheets in Excel.

In Excel if you look at the bottom, you should see a list of sheets and the Export Summary as the first sheet.

Clicking on the secondary sheets there should show the exported data.

1. I have OS High Sierra 10.13.6

2. I can't open the exported document. It look total different than anything I have ever seen. This is what it says

This document was exported from Numbers. Each table was converted to an Excel worksheet. All other objects on each Numbers sheet were placed on separate worksheets. Please be aware that formula calculations may differ in Excel.

3. I have not tried to exporting using other programs since I have been exporting for several years using the mac converter

4. Others can't open the docs. I can send them a pdf but then they can't make changes to it if they need to.

Thanks

Pat

This is nothing on the export that sounds like what you are explain. It shows the following

This document was exported from Numbers. Each table was converted to an Excel worksheet. All other objects on each Numbers sheet were placed on separate worksheets. Please be aware that formula calculations may differ in Excel.

Numbers Sheet Name

Numbers Table Name

Excel Worksheet Name

Imported AppleWorks Data - MOUN

The only thing that is highlighted is imported from AppleWorks which I haven't used for years. I have exported using numbers since it came out and this is the first problem I have had. Now it does it to all spreadsheets even ones I have done in the past. I keep both copies in my computer and can open the old Excel ones fine. Did they do something new to Excel or Numbers to cause this?

Thanks

Pat

Hi Pat,

What version of Numbers? (Numbers menu > About Numbers)

Your profile information shows your OS X version is 10.10.3 (Yosemite), Is that correct?

Apple menu > About this Mac.

Have you tried reopening the exported document (the one ending .xls or .xlsx) with Numbers? What result do you get?

Have you tried reopening the exported document with LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice or NeoOffice? What result do you get? (Links go to home page for each of these open source applications. Libre is free to download and use, but does request donations to support future development. The others have both free and charged for packages.

Are 'all' of the 'others' unable to open your exported docs, or 'some' of the 'others'?

Regards,

Barry
