soft shutdown with ups

Hi,

I'm just wondering what a 'soft shutdown' is meant to actually be when using an attached UPS. I have configured the UPS panel in Energy Saver and after the specified criteria are met during a test (turning the wall switch off), the UPS beeps and my iMac Pro seems to quickly shutdown over a couple of seconds.

When I normally shutdown the computer, it can take up to 30 seconds with windows closing one by one. Is the rapid UPS shutdown behaviour normal?

Thanks

iMac Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

In the Energy Saver System Preferences when you click UPS,

Click the "Shutdown Options..." button. If none of the boxes are checked

and no times have been set, the iMac simply shuts off when the UPS

can no longer supply power.

If it is shutting down within only a few seconds of power removal, either

the UPS is woefully incapable of supplying the needed power or is faulty

or maybe the battery is not fully charged.

An iMacPro is going to need a pretty hefty UPS.
