Sound Check doesn't appear to do anything

When I go into the Home app, select my HomePod and tap on the Details button, I get a settings screen that includes a Sound Check toggle. I thought that, if Sound Check was on, I wouldn't have to keep adjusting the volume up whenever a quiet song came on and then down whenever a loud song came on. This doesn't happen. Do I misunderstand what Sound Check should be doing for the HomePod?

Thanks.

Hello Thommy Joe,

I understand you've enabled the Sound Check feature in your HomePod settings yet notice you still have to change the volume of some songs. I'd love to offer info that could help with this issue. Indeed, you are correct, Sound Check is designed with the purpose of making the sound volume more consistent. The link below further confirms this notion:

HomePod settings

Make the sound volume consistent: Turn on Sound Check to adjust for variances in songs so they all play at the same volume. Sound Check reduces the loudest volume setting on HomePod.

Taking this previous information into consideration, I recommend checking for any possible software updates your HomePod may need as shown on this article:

Update HomePod
Finally, should the issue persist after updating, you can follow the steps available in this link to reset your HomePod:
If HomePod isn't responding
I hope you find this information helpful, and would like to help with any additional questions.
Take care!
