High Pitched Noise - Coming from 8gb Black 2nd Gen Nano

It's an 8gb Second Generation Black Nano (Running version 1.0.2) and it makes the High Pitched Whining sound.
I (16yo) can hear it but my parents can't, and my 60gb Video doesn't make this noise.

I've read this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3534719? and tried to read this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3136671& but it won't let me in (Operation aborted, running IE7 on XP X64).

So, is there a fix for this problem (firmware), or do I take it to an Apple store and get a replacement, or is this annoying noise a special feature when you spend £170 with Apple?

Any help appreciated, other than read the the other thread which I can't get into!

A64 4800+, BFG 7800GTX, 2GB Ram, WD Raptor 74gb, Maxtor 300gb 16mb cache

This problem does not happen whilst the iPod is connected to the computer via USB.

I hear it too on my 4GB 2nd Gen nano, but I have to literally put it right against my ear to hear it. It sounds as if yours is louder than normal though...do you hear it only from very close to your ear or from a distance such as an arm length or so? If you can hear it from and arm length or so, I would think it would be out the norm and would see about getting it replaced/exchanged from the place of purchase or a nearby Apple Store for another unit.

I can hear it at an arms length, but I'm 16 and have good hearing!

I would definitely try to return it for a different unit, especially if it is annoying to you. BTW, I'm 43 and have good hearing too! 🙂

Will my local Apple store be OK with replacing it?

(What I meant was it's a noise which I can hear but my mum can't.)

Well, if it's as loud as you're saying it is, I would definitely at least give it a try...give them a call, describe the problem and see what they say before you take it in.
