Apps, opening at startup

I have recently installed Snapz Pro X 2.6.1, an update from an earlier version and it always opens at startup. I have checked system preferences/users and groups/startup items and removed it but it still opens. The previous earlier version did not do this. Any ideas how to stop this?

You need to reinstall SnapX Pro and under Preferences uncheck this checkbox:

User uploaded file

If you want to delete it entirely and may have missed some supporting files installed by SnapX Pro. Download and run Find Any File to search for any files with the application's name and/or the developer's name in the file name. For SnapX Pro the following search:

1 - Name contains ambrosia

will get you the following:

User uploaded file

and this

User uploaded file

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

Additionally, using AppCleaner these same files can be quickly deleted:

Removed it how. Unchecking the box or the - sign. The negative should delete it.

macOS Sierra/High Sierra: Open items automatically when you log in

Also be sure to Quit the app when you are done, not just close the Window. There is an option to relaunch all running apps after logging in.

If that does not help, reference this thread: Unwanted startup items (OS Sierra)

Not to mention shutting down is not always necessary, just put the machine to sleep. Especially a iMac

I never shut down my MBP unless I am traveling for some distance and time. It does not hurt a day to day machine to simply sleep.

FWIW, in many programs, start at login is optional. You need to check the preferences for the programs that are starting. If you have particular problematic programs, listing them would be helpful.

Nothing there that helped solve it...

App, preferences/launch on login checked.
