can't import cds onto itunes without computer crashing/shutting down

hi, everytime i try burn cd's onto itunes my computer either freezes or appears to shut itself down but seems to be still running, i had a similar problem when playing computer games, after a while the whole system would appear to shut down but would be still running (the screens black and nothing can be done until i literally turn it off at the plug then reboot). I think its the converting into "AAC" files it has problems with but im not sure. But if anyone can help me with this problem itd be great, cheers. (p.s. here are my computer specs.)

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

alright, ive tried importing songs that ive ripped from cds through media player onto itunes but again it crashes, i noticed when i ran the diagnostic it said "If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard" so do you think this may have something to do with it?

Itunes crashes for me when I try to import a second CD. The first one works, and Itunes works until I insert another CD, then it freezes, and screws up my internet connection.
I have 1 HD on IDE0 and 2 optical (1 CD burner and 1 DVD) drives on IDE1.
Pulling the power connector on the DVD drive solves the problem, I'm now looking for updated drivers via the previous post.
