IMac won’t start up A1195

I was given the task to troubleshoot an iMac 17” model A1195.

- won’t startup, will power on.

- display stays dark. PowerLight will strobe, or come on solid.

- CD drive seems to spin on startup and cycle continuously.

- will continue to stay in this dark screen, CD spinning loop until I unplug or press the power button.

- tried the Apple+cmd+P+R on startup, seemed to change the sequence of events but still no display.

- now, computer will power up for about 20 seconds, CD will spin, and computer will **** down.

Not sure where to go from here, I know this computer is old and likely not worth fixing, just looking to see if it’s a simple fix, software etc.

Try an SMC reset:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try starting up in Safe Mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Try Single User Mode (hold command-s keys)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201573

At the prompt, enter this command:

/sbin/fsck -fy

Press the Return key.

This will check your directory and report that it was OK or repaired. Then enter this command to startup normally:

reboot

None of these things made a difference. The only thing I could do was the smc reset, didn’t change anything. Computer turns on, led 1,2 are on, then shuts off within a few seconds.

I tried removing the ram and starting up, it stayed powered on, but the main led just blinked continuously. Tried the ram in all combinations, nothing changed.
