I just plug in my iPad Mini that I have not used for a while and it is showing the battery signal with red in it but it is not showing the charging signal. Help

Assuming a lightning connection try flipping the connector over. Check for fluff in the port and if found tease out gently with a thin sliver of card or plastic taking care not to damage the contacts.
