cannot send data to printer with high sierra

I'm running High Sierra v 10.13.6 on an iMac and as of yesterday it has suddenly stopped sending data to my printer, which is an HP Laserjet Pro MFP M477 fdw.

The problem seems to lie with the iMac not the printer as it will print HP configuration pages but no files from the iMac itself. That said, I cannot install the latest firmware for the HP, so perhaps there is some relationship.

Any suggestions please ?
