Airplay For Projectors

I'm researching the use of Airplay to wirelessly mirror my iPad screen to an overhead projector. Some of my research seems to indicate that a variety of projectors offer native support for Airplay. I've also found some wirless HDMI dongles on Amazon that "seemingly" can connect wirelessly to my iPad. (Most of these dongles are also advertized as Miracast compatible.

Here's an example of one projector spec I've copied from Amazon:

Connectivity: HDMI/USB/WIFI/Bluetooth/AV/Ethernet. Compatible with laptop, PC, TV Box, Fire TV Stick, DVD player, camera, BT speaker, Mouse & Keyboard, etc. AirPlay/iMirror/Ushare Wireless Screen Mirroring with Android Phone, iPhone, iPad and Mac.

At the same time, I've been told that Airplay is strictly propietary and that the only option is hook my projector to an apple tv which in turn will be able to receive the Airplay signal from my iOS device.

I'm feeling confused and would like to know some options before randomly purchasing projection hardware and ending up disappointed.

Currently I use a lightning to HDMI corded connection on an older Epson projector. While it works and is reliable the cord is very inconvenient in my classroom setting; and while Epson offers the iProjection app for supposed "wireless connectivity" it is very limited -- it does not support full iOS screen mirroring. So PowerPoint and other screen shots must all by imported into the iProjection app and end up frustratingly handicapped.

I will post a solution to my own question here... STEP 1> I purchased the Mirascreen dongle and plugged it into the HDMI port of the Epson Projector I have.(Mine is the MiraScreen brand of hardware.) Most, if not all, of the current Mirascreen products support MiraCast and Airplay. (Two different approaches to wireless device mirroring.) STEP 2> I connected my iPad to the mirascreen via peer-to-peer networking. (My knowledge of the options is limited. In my situation this means I am disconnected from the WiFi in the building, so I don't have interent access via WiFi while connected to the Mirascreen. From what I've read in the user manual it MAY be possible to connect to both; I can't be sure.) STEP 3> I connected my iPad to the projector (with the MiraScreen dongle) via Airplay. ADDITONAL COMMENTS: While I haven't done extensive testing, I have successfully connected and disconnected several times. PowerPoint slides work very well. Lag time is very little. I can tell it just a bit, but I consider it very acceptable. Range has been decent. I walked around the room - up to 15 feet away from the projector - with no problem.

I’m just checking no say “me too“ and that I have been searching for wireless projector connectivity for several years a few of the dongles and do-dads I’ve tried don’t work. I’ve tried to miracast from my iPad using several of the avail apps and they just refuse to connect or show any locally available miracast service.

Complicating my problems is that the projectors I use are all ceiling-mounted. Most recent projectors are WiFi capable, so I don’t see why Apple couldn’t create some virtual display adapter over WiFi.
