Does resetting Apple ID password disconnect iPad from Find My iPhone?

Hi all.

So my grandfather put his iPad on the roof of his car and drove to work. This iPad in question is somewhere in Bangkok, maybe still working, or it was ran over by a semi and is in a million pieces. It has Find My iPhone enabled, however, my grandfather has no idea what the password is. I can reset it, but judging from the various Apple Support pages, that would cause the iPad (if it is not destroyed) to be kicked off the iCloud account. Is there any way to recover access to the account without losing Find My iPhone?
