Can't export photos to external hard drive?

Hi,

I used to be able to export my photos from "photos" into my seagate external hard drive. I then went to do a time machine back up, but I couldn't do this to my exisitng external hard drive. So I bought another and did the back up to the new external hard drive.

I have since imported more photos to my Mac from my phone, and tried exporting them to the original external hard drive like I used to, but it now wont let me. Something about an error 1001?

I have no idea what changed. I can't export downloads or any other documents now to it.

Not sure whether it is the new seagate external hard drive, or whether it was the recent update i put on my mac?

Help please!

Are you running out of storage? How much free storage do you have on your external HDD?

If that isn't the issue, try this:

Go to Finder

  1. Go to Your Home (users)
  2. Go to Picture Folder
  3. Within Picture - find the iPhoto or Photo Library
  4. Right Click, and Click on Show Package Content
  5. You can see Masters in list of folders
  6. Select Masters, Right click Get Info (Make sure you are Admin)
  7. Unlock
  8. On the Shared: Click on the Admin or whoever you want - make sure the permission is READ and WRITE
  9. Click on the Gear ICON
  10. Click "Apply Enclosed Items"
  11. You will see a message to say that this cannot undone - Ignore
  12. Once MAC finish applying the permission, you should be able to export the photos

before we try to help we need details as giving you advice without knowing exactly what is goin on may make things worse or even lose your photos

what OS do you have? what format is the seagate drive (select it in the finder and get info and tell us the format and verify that you have write access to it)

There is nothing in any unidentified new update that stops exports - it may be a drive problem or it may be incorrect format or permissions - start by telling what you have as requested above

It is macOS 10.13.6

The seagate drive Format is: Windows NT File System (NTFS)

When I go down to the sharing & permissions section of "get info" it says I can read only. But next to my name, under the privilege column it says read & write.

I dont see anywhere where i can change it. Clicking on the lock and unlocking it hasn't worked.

I feel like it wasn't related to the update. I think it was more that I had to get a second external hard drive and dedicate that solely to the time machine back up, but now that i try and use the original external hard drive, that I have always used for photos, it now won't let me export.

Thanks!

not unless you used additional software as recommended - a Mac can not write to a NTFS drive without third party software and even with that software you are limited in what you can do - for example you can not use it for your Photos library

you came to get help and the answer is

MacOS can only read and copy from NTFS drives, not write to them. To do that, you need to use software like this one: Microsoft NTFS for Mac | Paragon Software

you can choose to use the answer to your problem or not ,but it is the answer
