Can I upgrade to High Sierra os on a mid 2009 Macbook Pro? I am currently running El Capitan 10.11.6.

I understand you want to upgrade your MacBook Pro to macOS High Sierra.

The list of Mac models that support or can run macOS High Sierra can be found here: https://www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements

It would appear that your current 2009 MacBook Pro is sadly not supported; only MacBook Pro models that were produced in 2010 are able to run macOS High Sierra.
