Internal Speakers not listed

I turned on my computer this morning and my volume all of a sudden wasn't working. I tried to reset my computer multiple times and have done research and found nothing to help. I went into my settings and sound and nothing was listed under output or input. Nothing is jammed in my headphone jack and I don't know what to do. The internal speakers isn't listed under output and I can't click on anything within the sound settings. Also, I try to turn down or up the volume and it shows a circle with a slash through it. Please help. Thanks.

Okay, so I don't have a MacBook Air...but today, my internal speakers disappeared as well! I only have "Digital Out" listed (twice) as an option, unless my headphones are plugged in. What's the deal? I have macOS High Sierra on the 13-inch, late 2009 model. I tried to reset using the directions through the link, but it didn't make any difference.Any suggestions?!
