How to install drivers for Epson XP-235 on High Sierra

iMac (21.5 inch, 2017)

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

According to this page from Epson Epson the XP-235 printer is compatible with High Sierra.

This page from Apple confirms this should be the case... Printer and scanner software for macOS High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, and Mavericks - Apple Support

I have installed Epson Software Updater, which installed some files, but it will not install the driver and says "On OS X v10.7 and later, the latest driver is distributed via Apple Inc.’s Software Update."

However, when I try to install the driver with Software Update, the printer is recognised, but it says "Software from this printer isn't available from Apple. Contact the printer's manufacturer for the latest software."

So I'm chasing my tail in circles trying to work out how to install the driver.

Any ideas?

Actually this is an update from my previous post, this is from Apple Support Downloads macOS

Epson Printer Drivers v3.3 for OS X

once downloaded double click to install.

The bottom line is that the printer manufacturer has to develop and provide the drivers. That is true whether they provide them to Apple or via their support site to the general public. Apple cannot create them ... just distribute what they receive. All computing hardware manufacturers can elect to participate in the Apple Developer program where they would receive beta copies of macOS. I'm sure Epson does.

Here is a link to an Epson page with downloads for your printer, https://www.epsondriversupdate.com/2017/07/epson-xp-235-driver-download-software .html scroll down the page to Operating System Support there you will see two downloads for your printer, one for the printer and one for the scanner. Now they do only mention Sierra and not High Sierra but I would try them anyway, they won't do any harm.

Took me ages to find them, I don't know why companies make it so difficult for people to find the things they are looking for, I wonder if they ever use their own websites.
