Tossed out the Printer Setup...

...by mistake. I used Pacifist to try and get the Printer Setup Utility app. off of the install disk. Found the app, but when trying to extract, I get an error stating the Printer Setup Utility doesn't exist. That got me to scratchin' my head.

I have Printer Setup Utility on my iBook G3, 10.4.8, made a copy and dropped it into the applications>utilities folder. Restarted, but I can't get my new HP Photosmart C7180 to print from my PPC Mac G5, but it does print from my iBook. Still scratchin' my head.

Any suggestions?

Hi Paul,

In "default", the printer does show up connected to bonjour. When I select the printer, it then asks to choose the printer driver. I select HP, but photosmart C7180 does not show up in the list. So I can't add the printer. With my iBook, the software assistant took me through the process and the printer works with my iBook.

Thanks Gnarlodious,

I dropped your printer setup app into the applications utilities folder (trashed my copy).

Did a reset. It "sees" my printer, but the add button is greyed out.

I was on the phone with an HP tech for over an hour and says my printer setup need to be "rebuilt"? For whatever reason, my computer is not allowing me to add any printers.

Still stumped

Ok, this is what happened. I had an Apple tech on the phone for an hour. Like the HP tech, he could not figure out what the problem was. At the last resort, I did a clean install. Did all the updates, blah, blah, blah.

Reinstalling did the trick. I ran the HP installer again, and this time it worked. I am now up and running and printing wirelessly.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions.
