Why is Facebook “Using Significant amounts of Memory”?

When using Facebook in Safari 11.1.2, I’ve been getting a warning that says “This webpage is using significant memory. Closing it may improve your Mac’s responsiveness.”

I’m using a 2017 21” iMac, with 8 gb of RAM, running macOS 10.13.6.

I’ve cleared my caches in Safari, and its History.

It doesn’t seem to be happening when I use Firefox on the same machine.

What’s doing on?

How — in layman’s terms — do I stop this?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

What's going on is facebook is a pig. It tries to preload tons of crap and has active scripts everywhere.

If you want to avoid the problem, avoid facebook.

Just ignore it.

It is an annoying pop up that we all could do without.

A Safari.app feature Apple thinks is useful somehow.

You can't ignore the problem; Facebook will not load much information and ultimately Facebook reboots. I have a new iMac running 10.13.6

Based on previous response, I tried Facebook on Firefox and it works fine. Somehow the issue is Safari related.

Yes, I’d worked that bit out: and have been using Firefox, myself, as a FB specific stopgap.fri, though:

I’d prefer to be using Safari, though.
