Iphone 8 plus decrease in photo quality

I upgraded to an iPhone 8+ for the picture quality, which I was very pleased with until recently. I haven't changed any settings and the quality of my pictures has decreased dramatically. My daughter has noticed the same problem. It is even worse in lower lighting. I'm wondering if an upgrade might have changed a setting that I'm not aware of. I just made a photo book with recent pictures and was extremely disappointed. The file sizes are between 1.5 and 5 MB. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

There have been no changes that would affect photo quality. Your mention of low light rings a bell, however, because all digital cameras will have lower quality under low light conditions, as the electronic "noise" in the sensor can cause a grain-like effect in the image. You should also carefully inspect the lens and lens cover glass for dirt and scratches. Also make sure you don't have any filters enabled that might affect picture quality. That's the 3 overlapping circle icon on the camera.
