iMac is slowing down network for all devices

I have an iMac using OS 10.13.6 and get our internet from AT&T. The connection started slowing down this past Monday, I think. It may have been slow before that but it became annoyingly obvious Monday. On Thursday a

U-Verse tech came out to switch us to a new box (unrelated to my problem, just an equipment upgrade). When he was done and he saw the service was so slow, he changed out the router to no avail. He disconnected my iMac from the network and the speed was at 15 but when he reconnected the computer is slowly dropped down to somewhere around 3.

Nothing I've tried worked but when I log into another user name the problem stops. So is this an app problem and if so, could you tell me how to fix this with as little pain as possible? My knowledge of computers is turning it on, logging in and clicking on all those cute little icons. I would be grateful for any advice.
