Not able to add contact name to number from text message

Depending on your iPhone model, try a forced restart:

• On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
• On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Side and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
• On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Then test it.

I have the same issue - there is no option to add the contact. It disappeared last week - and also removed some contact information that were recently added.

Open the text conversation. On top right-side you should see an "i" in blue circle.

Tap on it, then, always on top right-side, after the telephone symbol, you should find the symbol ">".

Tap on it, then choose "create a new contact" option.

Still not resolving the issue.

This is unacceptable.

Half of my contact names are deleted, and this phone is less than a yr old. And this is the exact reason I had to replace my last phone was due to this issue and more-completely delting texts, speaker intermittently working, phone calls not coming through etc. -i am on call 24/7. Kinda need an operational phone.

Hard starts to not fix the problem. Sometimes the problem resolves itself within a 24 hr period, sometimes it does not. It lets me edit contacr info for a couple of texts, but not many.
