Erase Hard Drive

Hello

I have a macbook pro that is running version 10.10.5 (Yosemite). I would like to erase the hard drive I have, and have the hard drive boot up as if though it was the first time being used by a new user. I have read the instructions Apple has given me, but when I go to disk utility it will not allow me to erase the hard drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to erase boot drive, you need to boot in Recovery mode, then format drive with Disk Utility.
