AirDrop "Allow me to be discovered by" not showing

(This is a follow up on a previous conversation now closed. Just wants to share how I get around the problem)

I can't AirDrop photos on iPhone onto iMac (mid 2011), but MacAir ok. For the iMac I hook up iPhone with USB and Import (with Delete) in Photos.

Anyone knows a better/faster way?
