End of my rope!!

I have quite nearly given up on Apple today. I have been trying to update the iOS for my iPhone 6 for at least 4 hours now. In order to download any of the apps I need, I need a software update of at least iOS 10. My phone is only operating via iOS 8.3. I have tried everything from updating it through my phone AND my PC to factory resetting the whole thing and nothing will work. I don't understand what the problem is and I am at my wits end! Please help 😟

There are 2 ways to update.

The best way for you to update is to use computer iTunes since you have such an old iOS version.

1. Make sure your computer iTunes version is 12.8 or later

If you don't version 12.8 you need to update iTunes first

Windows 7 or later

Mac OS X 10.10 or later

2. Connect and select iPhone in iTunes and update from there.

You are going to have to tell us exactly what error message you got when you tried to update via iTunes. We can't troubleshoot without knowing what error you are getting.

And it is likely that you are ultimately going to have to use iTunes for this update since the OTA process doesn't seem to be working.

You may also have to put it into DFU Mode:

Entering Device Firmware

Upgrade (DFU) mode

Restoring a device after it enters

DFU mode returns it to a known

good state with the certainty that

only unmodified Apple-signed

code is present. DFU mode can

be entered manually.

First connect the device to a

computer using a USB cable

On iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or

iPod touch—Press and hold both

the Home and the Top (or side)

buttons at the same time. Keep

holding them until you see the

recovery mode screen.

See page 5 of this User Manual for a complete description of DFU mode: https://www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf

Well at first, it would allow the download, but when I press update on my phone through the general settings, it does nothing at all, as if I had never even touched it. After backing up my phone which has virtually nothing on it (new phone), I factory reset and tried again but had the same exact outcome. I finally tried using my personal computer and connecting to iTunes, but even after hours of waiting, an error message pops up saying that something came up each time I've attempted.
