Battery drains more now during sleep after upgrade to High Sierra...why?
Trying the detach all externals trick to see if that works.

Yup. That appears to be what the problem was. Pulled out the HDMI connection to a TV as a monitor and the thunderbolt connection to a Presonus Quantum 2 interface. Even though they were not actually on while the laptop was sleeping apparently they kept the operating system and/or something else running. Thanks for the reply KiltedTim.
